in-dij-uh-nu-s is the collective experiences of young Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander people navigating the confines of their gender roles in post-colonial Australia. Told with honesty and bravery, our young people challenge the current state of the world, and call us to action.

Join Digi Youth Arts as they conjure their empowering, comedic and often controversial narrative searching for the truth about our past, the realities of our present and the direction of our future.

What we learnt WHILST working with adult humans

At the start of the year, the DYA team helped create a show that was a little different to what we are used to. We still told the stories of our indigenous youth but this time we had adult humans do the ‘acting on the stage’ part.

It is safe to say that we learnt a few things in the process:

Adult humans only need to hear instructions once.
They don’t climb potentially dangerous circus rigging that happens to be near the rehearsal space.
Actually, they don’t need to be told not to climb the potentially dangerous circus rigging that happens to be near the rehearsal space.
If there is a football for a prop, adult humans can be trusted with it before the play even begins. (Whaaatttt????)
They are only mildly attached to their phones. (Unless there is an impending election or a celebrity meme floating around the internet).
You are at no risk of losing your voice when working with adult humans.
At the end of the day, you have so much more energy than you expected to.
Working with them is almost as much fun as working with indigenous youth. (Okay maybe it is only half as much fun).
Adult humans care about the stories of our young people as much as we do.
DYA isn’t as alone as we thought we were, our family has expanded to include some very talented and compassionate people.
