This week the DYA team head to Yonder festival to deliver an installation, murals and music (via The Ancient Bloods). As always, we are proud of the DYA Developing Artists who will work at this festival to ensure the voices of Indigenous youth are front and centre. What is your favourite part of a festival?
The atmosphere and energy that is brought by the artists as well as festival goers!
What is your least favourite part of a festival?
The Portaloos (especially at the end of the day)
What do you want to see from festivals when it comes to First Nations engagement and programming?
Acknowledgement, inclusion and participation as well as respectful presentation of art in terms of following cultural practices.
How can festivals become more inclusive places for all communities?
By creating a safe, welcome space for all, calling out bad behaviour (eg behaviour that impacts cultural/minority safety)
What advice do you give to festival audiences to make the most out of their experience?
Get off your phones, take it all in and be present!
What act/s are you most looking forward to seeing at Yonder Festival? Everyone! But Iām very excited to see Clo Terare as well!
